Company Director
Robyn Baker
LISTD, DDE, PTTLS
Robyn began SYBC in 2010 with the aim of nurturing talent and inspiring young dancers to continue with their weekly ballet classes. She wanted to give them the opportunity to experience the end result of all those hours spent at the ballet barre and in class, by giving them the chance to perform in a classical company and work as a team to create a one off performance.
“I feel that so many students give up ballet as the grades become harder because they see no end result for the hours of work they put in. You have to be passionate about ballet to go to class and commit yourself to such a discipline. SYBC is for those who are dedicated to their craft and love to perform and I can honestly say that I have had such positive feedback from parents who say SYBC has re-awakened their child’s love for ballet and that is what I wanted to achieve.”
Robyn has herself been dancing since the age of 4 and is trained in all genres. Aged 16 Robyn was awarded a full scholarship to Elmhurst Ballet School where she completed her training and graduated at 19 with a Higher National Diploma and ISTD teaching qualifications in both Ballet & Modern. She gained her Licentiate qualification in 2016 and is currently studying towards her final ISTD teaching qualification. Robyn became a qualified pilates instructor in 2018.
Robyn went on to dance at The Grand Opera House, Belfast, with QDOS productions before joining Carnival Cruise Lines, with whom she travelled extensively for 3 years as a featured singer and dancer. On returning home in 2007, Robyn began teaching. Robyn currently teaches at dance schools in Sussex and is head of ISTD and Ballet, on the Foundation Degree in Dance Course at Creative Academy, affiliated with the University of West London.
